Ulrich Teuffel presented the Birdfish for the first time at the MusikMesse in Frankfurt in the spring of 1995, and the reactions then were undoubtedly the same as the guitar still evokes today: what is thát!?
Due to its modular construction packed with design elements, this guitar blurs the boundaries between art and instrument, making the guitar a true statement. It is not without reason that the guitar is displayed in museums or exhibitions such as Jamie Gale's Boutique Guitar Showcase, the occasion where this fascinating guitar caught our attention.
The intriguing construction of the Birdfish consists of two so-called tone bars that are attached to the central elements 'bird' and 'fish'. There is a choice of alder and maple, making it easy to adjust the character of the guitar. The tone bars, together with its birdseye maple neck, give the guitar its acoustic sound, which is still strikingly present despite the absence of a sound box.
The guitar comes with five pickups, each with a different tonal character, with a choice of two single-coils and three humbuckers. The single coils are wired out of phase and are hum-cancelling when switched on together, while the three humbuckers sound different; open, with discreet midrange and warm. This makes the guitar not only a masterpiece in terms of design, but also a particularly versatile instrument.
This Teuffel Birdfish is number 243 from the limited edition of 500 pieces, so it is an extremely rare instrument. The waiting list for a Birdfish is currently around two years, so this is a great opportunity to join the group of illustrious owners such as Hans Zimmer, Billy Gibbons and Kirk Hammett!
