About This Listing

1961 HARMONY H22 SHORT SCALE BASS GUITAR, GOLD FOIL PU, SUPER CLEAN SHAPE, W/HARD CASE

A very lightweight 6 pound example of the highly sought-after Harmony H22 bass, with its distinctive gold foil pickup giving you the classic warm, woody, percussive tone of the best ‘60s bass sounds... especially with flatwound strings like this one has, just like the instrument originally came with. The H22 was used by such acts as the Small Faces and the Spencer Davis Group, and can be heard on their songs “Itchycoo Park” and “Gimme Some Lovin’” respectively.

The 30" short scale makes it easier to play, and also adds that extra bit of dark warmth. It's just been set up and plays clean on every fret with no buzzing, unless you play super hard in which case you can always raise the action to suit.

- unusually good intonation for a one-piece wooden bridge (though it requires the bridge to look slightly more angled than you might expect, see photos),

- and string height action from 3/64”, measured across the 12th-17th fret with the 1st fret depressed.

Rare factory original “minimalist burst” finish, on back side only. Date stamp inside the upper f-hole reads "3048H22 H61 JW." JW may be an inspector's initials, as it is seen quite regularly on a great number of Harmony date stamps throughout the '60s.

The electronics and controls all work perfectly, and the pickup sounds amazing. There are just a few imperfections I'll list below, but none of them affect the sound, playability, or functionality of the bass.

This 1961 Harmony H22 Short Scale Bass Guitar is a used item in close to excellent condition. You will find this item is nice shape with only minor wear marks and finish checking from age and light use. No deep marks or scratches . All functions are working as they should. Electronics work as they should. Almost all of this bass guitar is original including tuners, pickup, bridge and electronics. The pickguard is a vintage style 1-ply guard like the original. You will receive this item well-packed but without its original packaging or paperwork. Please contact this seller for additional information.
