This 2002 Modulus Genesis G3SH was custom made, and is to my knowledge
the only Modulus to ever feature a Bigsby tremolo. It's been played but
very well cared for, and is in excellent condition with minimal wear to
the finish, frets, etc. It's a rare model but is similar in concept to
the custom Modulus Genesis 3 semi-hollow played by Bob Weir of the
Grateful Dead. The only disappointing thing about this guitar was the
case (which fell apart pretty quickly), so it's been living in a nice
gig bag ever since.
The G3SH combines the warmth of high quality tone woods with crisp articulation and added sustain from the graphite composite strip in the neck and on the back of the headstock. The graphite adds so much stability that the neck hasn't required a truss rod tweak in the 12 years I've had it, despite several trips from SoCal to humid climates. The 25.5" scale length adds a bit more twang than comparable Gibson designs, and the elongated tuner design insures straight string pull and enhanced tuning stability (see reverse headstock photo).
The body is best described as the lovechild of an ES335 and a Rickenbacker 360. That sounds like an odd combination but it looks elegant, balances well, and isn't particularly heavy despite it's full size semi-hollow profile. The finish is an immaculately applied cherry red stain on a highly flamed maple top comparable to a AAA grade PRS or Les Paul.
The dual humbuckers have a warm PAF quality, and can be continuously scrolled between full humbucker mode and twangy single coil tones with a knob. It's a versatile and unfussy set up that lets this guitar lock in with a wide variety of amp and effects set ups, and makes it work well in most musical styles. In short, it's a beautiful professional grade instrument that's easy to play, reliably in tune, responsive and zingy plugged or unplugged, meshes nicely with most any amp, and maintains it's personality when using effects. One of the best things I can say about this guitar is that it's genuinely different from the usual Fender/Gibson reference points; so if you want to stand out from the crowd visually and sonically while maintaining the value of your investment, it's a great choice.
Why sell it if it's so awesome? I have too many guitars and it doesn't get the use an instrument of this caliber deserves. I'm hoping it finds a good home and makes a lot of cool music. More details:
