Aria Pro II SB-1000 Bass 1981 Padauk Red MIJ Matsumoku

Here’s a 1981 Aria Pro II SB-1000 in excellent condition. By now, these need no introduction! Many high profile players such as John Taylor, Cliff Burton, and Jack Bruce used these in the ‘80s. They were excellent quality instruments made in Japan.

Very few noticeable blemishes, but of course there are a few. On the back of the neck there are some small dings, and a couple nicks, scrapes, elsewhere (I’ve tried to show most in the pics). But overall it is in beautiful condition for an instrument of this age!

One of the downfalls of the SB-1000s was that the pickups and circuits would fail, which happened with this bass. Fortunately I was able to get the best available replacements to be as close to OEM as possible. It has “road worn” MB-1E pickup from Finnish pickup maker Rautia. It was one of the last ones he sold before retiring, unfortunately! It also has a new BB “noisekiller” circuit installed. It was made in Finland by Carl, who has been able to improve upon the original design.

I had the electronics done at Uptown Music and setup done by River City Rock Star Academy, both in the Salem area. The neck and truss rod are both in great condition; no weird fret buzzes when playing. This bass is ready to go! It is really nice playing and sounding bass but also quite heavy at 11 pounds!

You don’t see many SB-1000s in this nice of condition, and with the new Rautia pickup and BB circuit you won’t have to worry about any failures anytime soon. One thing to note was that the tone knob was a little loose but it seems fine after adjusting it slightly. Everything else is original including the pots; the battery monitor light flashes as it supposed to.

I will ship the Aria in a brand new Gator ABS hardshell case - it’s a tight fit but it will protect the bass in shipping! A signature will be required upon delivery from UPS. Shipping to Canada would be another $75-100, approximately.
