Gibson TG-0 Model Flat Top Tenor Guitar (1968), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # 520529, natural mahogany finish, mahogany body and neck, rosewood fingerboard, black chipboard case. This Gibson TG-0 flat-top tenor guitar was shipped out in either 1965 or 1968, the serial number is inconclusive and the instrument's features don't change appreciably in this era. In either case the last strains of the "folk era" had been drowned out by the arrival of the Beatles and all that followed. Tenor guitars in general disappeared in the later 1960's, but have had something of a re-discovery over the last 20 years or so. The TG-0 was Gibson's most basic tenor model built entirely of mahogany with a rosewood bridge and dot-inlaid fingerboard. The small black plastic pickguard is screwed to the top, something Gibson was doing on even more expensive flat tops by the later '60s. The tuners are rather archaic looking Kluson openback strips and the headstock bears a Gibson gold logo decal. This is actually a relatively rare guitar; 284 shipped in 1965 and only 46 TG-0's were sold in 1968. This example shows some play wear but is completely solid and a very nice playerOverall length is 38 in. (96.5 cm.), 14 3/8 in. (36.5 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 1/2 in. (11.4 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 23 in. (584 mm.). Width of nut is 1 1/4 in. (32 mm.). This tenor has some general play wear with noticeable checking overall and some dings and dents to the finish wear (mostly to the top). The area by the soundhole has some strum wear into the wood and there is one old grain split to the top, solidly but visibly repaired. This remains a lovely little player with a sweeter sound than many of these we have had. It lives in a good grade '60s Gibson chipboard case with the old yellow plush lining. Overall Very Good + Condition.
