This listing is for my beloved Avante AV-2 Baritone Acoustic w/non original hardshell case and new set of Elixir 80/20 Bronze Nanoweb Baritone Strings. Excellent condition, plays and sounds amazing! A couple minor dings are present which I did my best to photograph. Huge, deep, clear and crisp sound/tone out of this beautiful guitar... Unique smaller body style does not compromise the sound one bit. The neck plays as effortlessly as possible for a baritone. I'll really miss this guitar but I'm moving and need to thin the herd. Specs below:
The Avante AV-2 was designed by Joe Veillette and Michael Tobias and licensed to Alvarez Guitars. They are now fairly rare, and are considered a very good value, given the pioneering design, the reasonably high quality materials, such as Gotoh SG tuners, bone nut and saddle, mahogany neck and North American spruce top. The tapered bridge shape provides better coupling to the soundboard for bass and treble, and the converging alignment of the Gotoh SG tuners results in an almost straight string pull through the nut. Also has a "zero-fret" which adds to the character when a note is played in open position.
Five ladder braces support the slightly bowed mahogany back. Conventional X bracing is used for the top, although the longer scale length and position of the neck mean that the bridge sits further below the crossing point than on a standard guitar. The bridge winds up closer to the middle of the lower bout. That may explain a wealth of bass response from a body that is slightly smaller than a typical dreadnaught.
While many baritone guitars are tuned with baritone strings a fourth or fifth below standard tuning for a standard guitar, I have played this guitar recently (although sparingly) with a medium set of standard strings down a minor third from standard with very nice results.
