Hopf are a family run German company that have been making high quality instruments for over 300 years. Most recently, DIETER J. HOPF was responsible for guitar construction and WOLFGANG HOPF for sales. After his master's examination in 1968, DIETER HOPF began to focus more on the development and production of high-quality solo instruments.
In 1981 the brothers separated and DIETER J. HOPF founded the company DIETER HOPF GITARREN-ATELIER. In this he was now able to work even better and more successfully with his master instruments. Some patents and protection claims document the drive for innovative further development.
This particular model 484/23 was made in 1973 in Germany. We couldn't find much information about this particular model as it was one of Dieters earlier makes. Any case it is super rare. Looks like solid cedar on the top and another solid tonewood for the back and sides- not sure what though. Sounds incredibly warm without being muddy and has a large projection. Awesome sounding classical.
Unfortunately the action is pretty high on this with no room to go lower on the saddle. It's sitting at 5.5mm at the 12th fret. The only way to fix this would be to shave down the bridge and/or try to straighten the neck. Normally this is about a $150+ repair and would need to be taken to a professional luthier. This guitar would normally be worth around $4500-$5000 but due to this we are selling it a lot cheaper. Honestly a great deal if you get this thing fixed.
This guitar is cosmetically in fair condition for it's age with some scratching and also checking in the lacquer. Comes with hard case.
