About This Listing

1978 Alvarez 5003 Classical Guitar with case-

It's been well played and used and had some abuse, but plays exceptionally well, has a great feeling neck with a wider than usual finger board, and the fretboard is true- barely any rise in the frets at the neck joint and no buzz anywhere. I rockered them all and it's all good, a crown and polish might help really dial it in, but still lots of life left in these frets!

The nut has a small chip out of the low E side but the strings stay put and the intonation is still bearable- it's wider than most nuts at 2-1/8"/ 53mm

I put brand new nylon strings on it and it sounds fantastic!

I was considering removing the stickers and will do so if you request it, but I think they help show it's age and history!

I cleaned it up real good and replaced the low E stripped tuner gear- they work fine now and no slip. The bridge is firmly attached and no humps or dips in the top- I reglued one of the loose interior braces between the bridge and sound hole, and I glued the inside of a previous gouge in the top.

It's fully intact and ready for another 30 years of campfire jamming, river trips, road trips, and street busking!

Comes with the original hard shell case and new nylon strings fully set up.

I will ship it at your expense- wrapped in bubble wrap and a cardboard box.

Product Overview
Alvarez guitars date back to 1965 when St. Louis Music began importing guitars built by luthier Kazuo Yairi from Japan. While Yairi made a number of higher-end guitars for Alvarez (referred to Alvarez-Yairi or just Yairi guitars), many of Alvarez's instruments were lower-end or budget models. The 5008 was a mid-range classical.
