About This Listing

For sale is this beautiful example of an 1895 top of the line S.S Stewart banjo.

Although the “universal favourite” and “thoroughbred” Stewart banjos are more common entry level banjos of the time the “specialty banjo” is unheard of and were usual only made for professional players.

This Banjo is in impeccable condition and completely original with exceptional to the vintage geared Grover tuning pegs which are rare as hens teeth and the armrest which can easily be removed.
It’s also been professionally re-skinned with a Kangaroo head.

Comes with the original box stitched leather hardcase, no-tip bridge and a hand tooled leather strap which I understand was made by the first owner.

Finest quality german silver plaited rim with wire edges 10 1/2 inches in diameter.

Straight and true ebony fretboard and cherry neck with German silver frets, mother of pearl inlays, maple veneer and heel carvings typical of Stewart during this period.

Plays beautifully, both with steel or nygut strings, imagine all the songs it’s carried over 130 years!

It will be shipped in a hardcase for safe travelling.
