About This Listing

Guyot (Guiot) 1849 - Ladies' model Romantic guitar with smaller dimensions and excellent sound!

The guitar was made by a luthier who signed the neck block with J. Guyot (11.7.1849). Based on the construction and history of the guitar, we assume that it was built in London in the vicinity of Panormo. Several French luthiers by the name of Guyot (Guiot) worked there and the construction style of this guitar is accordingly.
According to information from the previous owner, this guitar was specially made for the baroness Marion Barfield of the Priority (born 1831). The guitar has been in the family ever since. A corresponding family tree is included.

This guitar is a real masterpiece. Very high quality materials and excellent master craftsmanship make this little guitar a true wonder of sound. The fine inlays and the high-quality machine heads underline the quality of the instrument.
The top is made of fine spruce. The back and sides are made of high-quality rosewood. The scale length is 568 mm and the nut width 47 mm.

Despite its small body, this guitar has an extremely remarkable full tone. It's impressive how loud this little guitar can be. The tone has a beautiful maturity and presents the most beautiful timbres imaginable. The combination of high quality rosewood and spruce on this guitar is pure magic. This is the perfect guitar for someone who is looking for a beautiful and historically accurate sound.

This guitar is fully playable and plays impressively easy over the whole neck. The neck is straight and the action is pleasantly low. The guitar was professionally restored around 60 years ago and is in fabulous condition. It comes with the original wooden case.

It is a real pleasure to play this 175-year-old guitar, which represented the pinnacle of concert guitars in its day. This beautiful instrument should continue to make music for centuries to come!
