About This Listing

Figured I'd test the waters with this one. Wasn't going to list it on reverb only marketplace but I figured what could it hurt. I hand built this cigar box guitar 2 years ago. Obviously the body is a Brickhouse black cigar box. The neck was entirely hand made with mostly hand tools such as files, sand paper, chisels, etc. The neck is mostly made from mahogany while the fretboard is maple with just a slight bit of flame maple figuring in the grain. There is a steel rod (non adjustable as 3 strings shouldn't cause that much stress on a fairly thick neck vs your usual 6 string necks) that i installed beneath the fretboard. The fretboard has nickel frets that are fully playable. I wanted this guitar to be able to be played with both frets and slide. Therefore the action was set to a comfortable height that still is high enough to work great with a slide but low enough that playing the frets is very easy. The fret dots are burned in by a soldering iron in the same fashion as any other guitar. I also added side dots which are for the right handed player. The neck (excluding the face of the fretboard) is finished with natural colored stain and a thin coat of satin polyurethane. Which makes the wood grains show very nicely in the light. It has a 25 1/2 inch scale with 21 frets (many cb guitars have much much shorter scales with often less than 20 frets. Being a blues player i wanted to have 21 to make it more familiar like a regular guitar) the scale length gives this cb guitar a nice sort of twang/pop to the sound that's also not too twangy as i tried to make the neck pickup as close to the neck as possible to give it a nice very full sound. The string nut is made from tusq. It is fully electric via a handmade USA built humbucker from cb gitty called the gitty bucker. (I believe the gitty bucker is made with an alnico magnet judging by its tone. It has a fairly low dc resistance compared to most humbuckers. I assume this contributes to its very clear, open, bell like sound) Very very great sounding pup that i sincerly wish was available in a regular height adjustable form (the pup is hidden behind the wooden square cover on top. It has fully functional volume and tone controls. The bridge is a familiar fender hardtail style (not a genuine fender bridge) bridge that's a top loader. (Again wanted to lean to the more contemporary end of cb guitars) The 3 saddles are can be adjusted for height and intonation if needed. Very handy compared to the more traditional style box guitars that often have bridges made using half of a copper pipe, piece of wood, or my personal favorite which is a bolt, or threaded rod (clever cause the threads give the string a great slot to rest between)

Lastly the inside of the box is accessible still. (many cb guitar makers will seal the box lid once they're done inside. I opted to avoid doing so. Just incase i would need to get access to the electronics easily in the event of a bad connection, or the jack accidentally fell in the box, etc..) if you remove the bridge mounting screws, the lid will be free to open (carefully... as the pots are still wired to the jack, which is mounted to the box... not the lid) the two holes on top next to the pickup have no function.(honestly I wish I never drilled them) I drilled them in the hopes that they would promote more acoustic projection when unplugged as the guitar does have a cool unique sound unplugged. But unfortunately as I said, the holes ended up changing nothing With the projection and obviously can't be undone so what can you do? Lol Due to the fact that this guitar was in fact hand made and had many many hours of labor invested in it i have to ask 100 bucks. I will entertain offers but there is not much wiggle room in the price. 100 bucks doesn't come close to making up for the hours of labor. However, sadly I don't often play this guitar anymore and though I adore it... it should be played more. Sale is final and guitar is sold as is. Depending on how this guitar does here on reverb I may make many many more much cleaner looking cb guitars and post them here.
