About This Listing

This guitar is a perfect project guitar for a restoration or a 6120 conversion since this has the same classic Gretsch "Trestle Bracing" inside the guitar that Gretsch only used for a short time on their guitars.

I purchased this from a luthier who was working on it.

The year 1959 Gretsch Single Anniversary is 16” wide, 2 ½ deep single cutaway with the “London Bridge” Trestle Bracing, this is pretty much a 6120 at heart, less the cosmetics and one more pickup.  24 ½ scale, ebony fretboard, thumbprint inlays, with unbound fretboard and fingerboard..

This example has had the finish removed from the back of the neck and the body heel area. My guess is the neck was removed and reset, but I do not know that. It would have been difficult or impossible to get the neck this clean without doing that. The pictures show this area in detail. I believe it was also refretted at this point, but I am not positive. There is some tear out at the frets which usually indicates a refret, see the closeups of the fretboard. Neck angle is good.

The original smoke green finish was oversprayed with gray, including the original binding, which is still intact. The original screw holes for the tailpiece are still in place, as are all the original pickup mounting, routing, and control holes. The headstock is in good shape. It had some masking tape on it. The glue from the masking tape hardened, so I put some goo gone on it to remove the residue - you can see the goo gone on the back of the headstock but this is evaporating. Some naptha should help remove it.

Neck measures : 1st fret: .818 7th fret: .8635 9th fret .8855 width at the nut: 1.70

The '60s iteration of the Anniversary model featured Gretsch's single coil Hi-Lo'Tron pickups instead of the original Filter'Tron humbuckers. The Single Anniversary ran unchanged until the early '70s, when Gretsch would reorganize their model numbering system.
