I had the privilege of collaborating with Poison Noises on an incredibly feature-dense yet elegantly simple preamp pedal.
While many in its price range have only volume and gain, maybe a tone knob if you're lucky, the Tape-O-Neg has four different clipping modes and an incredibly potent and musical active 3-band EQ, allowing for quite a bit of nuance and tone-shaping capability.
The Bass. Mid, and Treble knobs are at zero when at noon, and turning to the left or right cuts or boosts the signal in that range accordingly and making it a perfect compliment to any guitar or pickup combination.
The Clipping features, located on a rotary knob, introduce different diodes into the circuit that graduate in compression and saturation as the knob is turned left. These differences are more apparent the higher the gain knob.
Mode 1 (rightmost) is wide open without any additional components introduced
Mode 2 is a combination BAT41 diode and an LED for subtle asymmetrical clipping
Mode 3 is a Silicon 1N4148 diode and a subtle graduation from mode 2
Mode 4 is a pair of germanium 1N34A diodes (just like the Klon!) and is a significant jump in compression, so be sure to compensate accordingly for volume!
Additional features include the ability to operate at 18v, an internal switch to go between true and buffered bypass, and a trim pot on the front of the pedal to adjust the brightness of the LED.
A portion of the profits made from sales of the Tape-O-Neg will be donated to the Coalition for Hemophilia B's Beats programming
