Early 1960s Maton EG45A C/A "Premier Electric" Hollow Body Electric Guitar

Made in the early 60s in Victoria, this beautifully hand crafted jazz guitar is the epitome of vintage Maton manufacturing and is a truly magnificent piece of Australian guitar history. Featuring a veneered spruce top with solid blackwood back and sides, the neck is 4 pieces of hand crafted Queensland maple and is a nice thick V carve. Although information for these guitars is scarce at best, this guitar really speaks for itself with incredibly rich acoustic tone and dark, jazzy goodness when plugged in.

The Queensland maple neck is very much a hefty carve with a soft V profile for lovers of 50s Fender style V necks, so much so that this guitar is actually constructed without a truss rod! Relief on the neck is perfect however and shows no sign of waivering in stability any time soon. With a rosewood fingerboard sitting at 24.75" Gibson scale and a 44.5mm wide plastic nut, the frets are a nice small to medium profile with a surprising amount of life left given they are original.

Equipped with its original Maton single coil pickup as well as original volume, tone and jack socket, the electronics are completely untouched and in perfect working order. Plugged in, the pickup generates an incredibly warm, vintage tone that cannot be replicated through any process other than authentic aging. This is the perfect instrument for any jazz player looking for the best in vintage tone.

In terms of condition, the guitar is completely and 100% original aside from a replacement set of machine heads that appear to have been installed a long time ago. They work perfectly and suit the subtle composition of the guitar. The star of the show is the incredibly checked 2 tone sunburst nitrocellulose finish, which has aged in the most incredible way and has some of the most intense and vast checking we've ever seen on a guitar. Fret life is at a solid 90% and the guitar is free from any structural cracks, breaks or repairs. Professionally setup with 10-46s, the guitar is playing beautifully with a nice, comfortable action and great intonation.
