Gibson SG Deluxe 1972 with original hard case. The serial number (963340) indicates that it was built in 1972. guitardaterproject<dot>org and essexrecordingstudios<dot>com both indicate manufacturing years of 1970/1971/1972. reverb<dot>com goes a step further and indicates that the dot above the letter "i" on the headstock was reinstated in 1972.
Many photos of the SG Deluxe show a Bigsby tremolo setup. My understanding is that only 250 units had the Bigsby. This one does not. I bought this guitar gently used in 1976, and I believe that I am the second owner. This instrument would legitimately fall between "Good" and "Very Good." It has belt buckle marks on the back, and some surface dings typical of its age. Plating on the bridge and stop bar is a bit blistered. Headstock inlays and rectangular fret markers are mother of pearl (not pearloid). Tune-O-Matic bridge.
Mahogany body and mahogany neck with walnut finish. Rosewood fretboard. 490T/490R humbuckers. The pots are nice and quiet. Gibson tuners. All original, aside from a new pickup cover and a new Switchcraft toggle switch. This beauty sounds and plays like a dream. Newly restrung with D'Addario NYXL nines. The back of the headstock has the usual Gibson surface crack where the headstock meets the neck. This was repaired several years ago by injecting Titebond hide glue into the crack and clamping for 48 hours. Even before the repair, this guitar would hold a tune forever. I never did have the pick guard.

Please note: The "Product Specs" contains autofill stuff that was provided by reverb<dot>com. Two of the items are not correct. The pickup configuration shows three humbuckers when there are only two. It also shows a tremolo tailpiece which is not correct for this guitar.
