About This Listing

VINTAGE 1930's Gretsch 6.5x14 Broadkaster "Rocket Lug" Snare Drum w/ Reinforcement Rings

  • Vintage Snare Drum.
  • Size: 6.5x14.
  • Details & Notes: A beautiful, and rare piece of Gretsch history. This drum is a 6.5x14 Broadkaster "Rocket Lug" snare that appears to be the standard three ply layout, however with the addition of reinforcement rings. Reinforcement rings are rarely seen but not unheard of on early Gretsch snares, bass drums, and larger toms. The drum has been refinished in a Mahogany stain, both internally and externally. The drum is factory equipped with a Frank Wolfe throw off and butt plate. Frank Wolfe throw offs were seemingly optional during this time, and are even shown in some catalog listings from the 30's. These throw-off's are a bit odd to use, and are securing the lever in the on position relies on tension, so once your snare tension is set, it is wise to leave it to avoid fuss. Lugs are tapped, and take slightly thinner tension rods similar to Leedy. A few lugs have been retapped to accommodate standard width tension rods. As is always the case with tapped lugs, tensioning comes with a slight risk, so we recommend hand tensioning with a key rather than using a drill bit key.
  • *Used and vintage snares are on display in our showroom. Snares may show fingerprints or stick marks from being tested and demoed, or disclosed signs of wear from previous owners*
