Overview:
Ovangkol's luscious aesthetics of cinnamon-brown with deeper hue streaks are difficult to resist. Ovangkol, also known as a wonderful overall tone wood, has comparable tone qualities to Rosewood and Bubinga, with a little fuller midrange and a slightly dull top end, but the strategically placed maple in the centre compensates for the lack of highs. The combination of an Ovangkol top and Maple core, as well as warmer sounding Mahogany wings, results in a perfectly balanced tone.
The Markbass MB-1 preamp produces a highly natural and transparent boost that does not alter the instrument's organic sound or resonance. Smooth lows, full-bodied mids, and bell-like highs emanate a passive feel thanks to the combination of crystal purity and natural warmth.
The MetalCraft M bridge is a robust, high-mass bridge that was designed with ease of usage and tone transfer in mind. The dual string loading system allows the strings to be loaded either through the body or from the top, depending on the string thickness, to find the best optimal string tension, resulting in enhanced sustain, greater playability, and focused sound. The deep individual slots that hold the saddles rock-tight, preventing any unwanted movement and allowing string vibrations to properly transfer to the body, are another significant improvement for tone transfer. MetalCraft M4 and M5 now have string spacing of 19mm (M4) and 0.750" (18mm) respectively (M5).
