About This Listing

You are viewing a beautiful Taylor K-46 12-string Koa. I have owned this guitar since 2001, when I bought it from the Chicago Music Exchange at 3270 North Clark, near Wrigley Field, while on Holiday in Chicago. You will find the receipt from 24 July 2001 in the case. The store still exists but has moved to 3316 North Lincoln Avenue. When I bought it, the band I played with played folk-inspired rock music, e.g., Tim Buckley, Dolphins; Tim Hardin, If I Were A Carpenter, and the Taylor K-46 12-string was ideal. Nowadays, the band I play with plays soul-inspired power pop music, e.g., Elvis Costello (I Don't Want To Go To), Chelsea: Smokie Robinson, Ain't That Peculiar, and I am playing mostly electric, Gretsch Broadkaster (centre block) and Country Gentleman (hollow) Players Editions.

I want to keep it, but I don't play it enough, and someone else will. In addition, I don't have the space to keep it with my accumulating treasure trove of guitars and amps (ring any bells), and my wife won't allow me (quite reasonably) any more space outside my office/rehearsal room in our apartment. So, to avoid 'gridlock' something has to give and one of those somethings is the Taylor K-46 12-string.

The guitar is in gorgeous condition. I have kept it clean and cared for it regularly. I recently changed the strings (Elixir Phosphor Bronze, 10/47) and cleared it up. Indeed, I played it this morning with a pick (I always played it fingerstyle back in the day), and I almost changed my mind about selling it. The action is low enough that triads are easy, and bar chords are possible at the ninth fret.

The following technical details come from both Taylor and elsewhere on the internet, but I believe it to be correct for my Taylor K-46 12-string Koa - Serial Number 20001003152:

Built-in El Cajon, California, on October 3rd, 2000. The 52nd guitar finished that day. The K series specs: Koa back and side, Koa top, Mahogany neck, Ebony fretboard and bridge. Glossy finished body, satin neck.

"The Taylor K65 12-string acoustic guitar brings the great sound of koa back to the Taylor line! This jumbo-style guitar features beautiful and amazing-sounding Hawaiian Koa wood on its top, back, and sides. Breathtaking abalone appointments accentuate this gorgeous wood. The K65's tropical mahogany neck is topped with a quality ebony fingerboard, and the neck inlays are specific to Taylor's Koa Series. You'll love the excellent midrange projection and beautiful 12-string shimmer you get out of the great-playing K65."
