- The Guitar Heard Around the World
Larry Carlton has played on countless hit records and best-selling albums. His solos on many Steely Dan recordings alone would make him one of the most respected session players in the business, but Larry has played in a veritable encyclopedia of styles from hard rock to cutting edge jazz fusion. His weapon -- err, well, guitar of choice has long been a Gibson ES-335 from the 1960s. The Larry Carlton Signature ES-335 captures the look and vibe of this versatile tone machine.
Slim-taper 1960s Profile Neck
Larry prefers the profile of the 1960s slim-taper mahogany neck, and who are we to argue with that? Since it's made of mahogany, you know the neck will be rock solid for years (or decades) of worry-free durability. The rosewood fingerboard with pearloid block inlays feels great and delivers a perfectly balanced tone. If it didn't play incredibly fast and feel absolutely great, you have to ask yourself, "Would Larry play it?" The answer should be obvious!
Two '57 Classic Humbuckers Onboard
Most would agree that the '57 PAF (Patent Applied For) humbuckers are as good as it gets when you're talking about tone. It's got it all: Complex midrange, punchy lows and a smooth top end that won't make your teeth hurt. For those seeking the often overused "out-of-phase" session sound which ruled the airwaves back in the 1980s, this is not the guitar you're looking for. If you're looking for a pickup that starts out clean and can really smoke when your amp is on 11, well then, that's just how Larry likes it!
