Up for sale is this 1940s - 1950s American-made Kay Super Grand Auditorium flat-top acoustic guitar. I am not 100% sure of the age, but there are a couple of things that point me to this being from the 1940s or 1950s. First, it has 7/32" pearl dot inlays, which were used up to about the 1950s or earlier. Second, it doesn't have a truss rod, which was more standard for instruments starting around 1950.

Regardless of the exact timeline, it is a very nice guitar. It features a solid spruce flat top, sides and back. It has a warm honey-orange color, which is all original. The finish hasn't been altered.

It has a very full and warm tone. The body resonates very well and you can feel it when you play.
There are some cosmetic marks and minor cracks etc. The top board has a seam crack running up the middle where the two boards were joined together on the left and right. There are two other minor cracks on the top board running from the pickguard toward the bottom edge of the lower bout. The cracks are all stable. There is a gouge to the right of the pickguard. (See pictures).

The back has a beautiful figured grain and appears almost wavy. There is a repair to the back side at the edge of the lower bout. The binding came off and was re-glued on the back. The top also separated from the sides at one point along the left-side of the lower bout and has been re-glued.

The neck has typical drying and separation at the heel. The frets are in good condition and the fingerboard is lacquered. The neck/fingerboard is relatively straight, but overall, the neck is joined to the body at a very slight upward angle. This gives the neck a bit of high action (0.14" / 3.5mm) at the bass-side 12th fret.

All of the hardware (tuners, logo, bridge, pickguard) are original.
