About This Listing

I bought this 2014 guitar in 2021/22, though Reverb from "Bay Area Guitar" in San Francisco and have only played it in my (non smoking) apartment since. I'm the second owner. Its been humidified and taken care of. I have a set of slightly lighter roundwound strings on it (the previous owner used flatwounds - see below). The first set of photos (in the garden) and the text below is from the previous ad. The second set of photos (on the bed) are mine. Selling because we need the space in our small downtown apartment. Really love this guitar. To me, it sounds like an ES175. Thick neck, Great feel, Super clean.

Previous description:
- one-owner guitar. purchased new from Guitar Center January 2015.
- No play-ability issues, no finish issues, no cracks / breaks / repairs. One small chip on the headstock above the G string tuning machine (visible in the above photo)
- all original: electronics, tuning machines, bridge/tailpiece. It does have Schaller strap locks installed, but I also have the original strap buttons in the case.
- It just had a Plek (precise fret level) and a full setup through a pro shop in the Bay Area (SF Guitarworks). It is in the best playing and sounding state that it has ever been in - which makes me want to keep it. It has a fresh set of high end strings - Thomastik Infeld George Benson Flatwound strings - 0.012 - 0.053 (fantastic strings).
- This was made in the Gibson Memphis factory in 2014, which has since been closed. This run of 1959 reissues was the only time in Gibson history that they have produced the ES-225 outside of the originals produced from 1955-1960.
- Extremely playable guitar with many different great sounds from the original Gibson Memphis dogear P-90 pickups - blues, jazz, rock, country, rockabilly - it can do a lot. The Gibson MHS P-90 pickups deliver vintage-alnico tones for authentic hollowbody sounds.
- Neck profile is similar to a 1959 Les Paul neck, feels great.
- The weight, body thickness, and the sounds are basically the same as an ES-330 or Casino, but with the body contours of an ES-175. With its bail tailpiece and two dogear P-90 pickups and fully hollow construction, it is actually closer to an ES-295 (the Scotty Moore guitar). Overall it is a very lightweight and comfortable guitar to play whether it is on the couch or standing for hours during a gig. It is acoustically very resonant and pleasant to play unplugged.
- the guitar was kept in a smoke free environment and care was always taken to avoid exposing the guitar to temperature extremes and moisture. The exterior of the case is faded and shows plenty of signs of use but still attractive; while the interior of the case is odor free and clean and in good condition. The guitar itself is very clean and the frets are shining and perfectly level after the recent Plek.
- I have taken good care of this instrument and would prefer to not have to part with it, but I recently purchased a vintage amp and I have to offset the cost of that purchase. Includes the original Memphis Certificate of Authenticity (COA).
