Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome .

You are looking at a somewhat rare RCA (MI-12017-G) dynamic microphone first produced in the early 1940's (possibly late 30's) I believe and manufactured up until the mid to mid 1950's. It has that classic "Bullet mic" design that was very modern and elegant for it's time. It comes with the short Belden cable and original RCA model desk stand shown in which to display.

Pic # 2 shows both the mic and the stand in an old 1940's catalog I have.

This mic is really going to pop anywhere it may be displayed or used.

It should be noted right away that this mic has been tested and no longer has the original element. Somebody disposed of the original element years ago and installed a crystal element which actually does still work but the output is very low and I'd rate the signal strength at about 30%. Too low to actually use now but a replacement element would have this mic up and working great. This should be used for display, prop or repair purposes only.

This classic MI-12017-G mic has a polished chrome finish. These mics either came in chrome or umber grey paint. The chrome version seems to be much rarer and was probably more expensive because of the finish which would explain it's rarity. There are just small scratches and small scuff marks on the mic itself but much nicer than one would expect on a mic of this age. No dents or fractures. Even the front grill on this mic looks pretty nice with just a couple small spots of pitting and one of the nicer I have personally seen. None of the ribs are fractured. My advice to whomever buys this mic is to NOT push the ribs or try to straighten them if you ever dent one as they are quite fragile and they do break if you put to much pressure on them. Just leave the ribs alone and you'll be fine. The white silk inner screen was replaced with a nice black foam screen and looks amazing. No odors either.

The mic has a short Belden model 8241 model 10 inch cable. The cable looks pretty nice too.   The cable is still soft and is very pliable with just lite exterior wear. It was stored in a very nice temperature controlled environment. The vintage Cannon male XLR end connector is properly wired in case you ever replace the element with something working. The Cannon connector shows no wear and again, works perfectly.

The mic is attached to the original chrome stand.

Mic is an easy 7 + on a scale of 1 - 10 in the cosmetic department.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE...

The stand is a nice period 1940's era RCA MI-6227B model and really compliments the mic though there are obvious lite signs of wear.

The mic stand makes a very stable platform. It's actually solid brass with a polished chrome finish that's very deco in nature. The chrome plate shows several spots of pitting on top but it's free of scratches or dents.

The stand has a bit of weight to it as well. It still has the pretty blue felt liner on the bottom of the stand which you very rarely see these days. it has survived the test of time.

Total dimensions with mic and stand are 8 1/2 inches tall x 5 inches wide.

This mic is going to draw a ton of attention anywhere it's displayed and will only go up in value as the years go by.   An ideal piece for any vintage mic collection.
