Univox EC-80 from 1970's Japan musical instrument era. Besides the back door, the unit appears to be all original. I cleaned the pots with De-Oxit, and demagnetized the heads. I recently bought a fairly good looking used Playtime tape cartridge, since the one that came with it was pretty well worn out.
I placed a few videos on youTube to demonstrate the tape echo in action. Recorded these with an iPhone, and a small, solid state practice amp, so the quality's not the best, but does show the unit functions as it's supposed to.
It came without a back door, so I fabricated a replacement. Its main function seems to be to hold the power cord. I didn't have the matching Tolex, so used some black primer to help it fit in.
The Univox EC-80 also comes with extra parts, these are: the old belt along with a newer one; a working motor from a cassette deck that looks like it could be a replacement for the current one, if it should ever go out. The used Playtime tape that came with the unit when I bought it. Also, there's a brand new old stock(NOS) Playtime tape, still in original packaging. Being new, the foam behind the tape looks good (which is a rarity), but should be tested to make sure it has life left in it, if not, it should be replaced. The foam is known to break down over time and can turn into a grimy sludge. In other words, it can make a real mess, which can be easily avoided by regular maintenance. I also have an EP3 echoplex with two tape cartridges coming to Reverb. It's been fully gone over and works great.
