Fender Jaco Pastorius Jazz Bass has arrived. It's from 2000. A tribute model to the renowned bassist Jaco Pastorius, famous for his work with Weather Report and others. While Jaco himself famously removed the pickguard and converted the neck to fretless on his 1962 Jazz Bass, this model pays homage to that instrument. One distinctive feature is that all the knobs are metal.
The fingerboard on current models is made of Pau Ferro, and this 2000 model might feature the same wood based on its grain. As Rosewood has become less common, Pau Ferro has often replaced it in recent years, but it's likely this Jaco Pastorius model originally came with Pau Ferro. Some might argue it's Rosewood based on appearance alone, so we won't assert with certainty.
Pau Ferro, a South American wood with texture and tonal properties similar to Rosewood, is coated with urethane for durability. The "slab" fretboard features 20 white fret line markers on a 12-inch radius fretboard. It's equipped with American Vintage single-coil Jazz Bass pickups.
While Jaco typically used roundwound strings, to preserve the fingerboard, we've strung it with flatwounds for setup. Clearly a Jaco model, fretless Jazz Basses like this are somewhat rare, making it a recommended addition for bassists who want to have a fretless in their collection.
Condition: Very good. Professionally cleaned and set up with new strings (D'Addario).
No problem with the electric systems. Neck is straight and the truss rod works with no issues.
Although it has signs of use such as scratches and dents, the overall appearance is relatively clean.
Comes with a hard case (does not appear to be genuine Fender)
