About This Listing

Rickenbacker #1998 Rose Morris 'Pete Townshend is now available as a used item. It was manufactured in 1987.

When you think of Rickenbacker, you might think of The Beatles, but this model is actually associated with Pete Townshend of The Who. It's one of the limited 250 produced.

The model name "1998" itself might not be familiar, but it originally comes from the 345, a 3-pickup model of the 330. When Rickenbacker guitars were distributed from the USA to the UK, the importing agent, Rose Morris, created this model as a UK-specific version with the distinctive F-hole feature. It's unclear how it differs from the American version of the 345.

While the 1998 model came with a tremolo, this Pete Townshend version is non-tremolo. It's uncertain whether Pete modified this 1998 to be non-tremolo or if it was provided by Rose Morris in this state, but during the 1960s, this guitar was synonymous with Pete.

The 345 model itself is quite rare, with its basic structure being similar to the 330, but its pickups are believed to be similar to those of the 325.

In the bridge position, only the bridge pickup sounds, and other positions are used in combination with a mysterious knob called the fifth control to create different tones.

During the time Pete used Rickenbacker, it seems he hadn't yet started using Hiwatt, and he mainly used it with VOX. Although the combination of VOX and Rickenbacker is now a classic, personally, I'd like to play it with a Hiwatt and a Marshall. Please don't destroy it.
