About This Listing

Dia 9402 OM style acoustic guitar, made in Japan, estimating early to mid 70’s vintage. This Dia 9402 seems to be modeled off Martin’s OM style guitars, materials appear to be ply spruce top, mahogany neck, sides, back, rosewood fingerboard and bridge.
Picked this guitar up at an auction, was in rough condition, bridge was cracked and pulling away from top, string tension had created significant belly on top, plenty of nicks, dings, and dents, but it appealed to me, had character with MIJ vibe from 70’s copy era.
I did work to bring this guitar back to playable condition, epoxy repair to bridge, removed and re-glued, steam heat and pressure to take belly out of top, general cleaning and setup. Added a new bone saddle, new strings, set bridge height, thought I would need to adjust truss rod, but on inspection the neck was straight and true. Tuned up and have been playing for a few weeks, full sound, with a mellowed tone. I’ve included a YouTube video of me playing this guitar if interested.
This guitar is far from perfect, but it plays cleanly, has low action, and holds tuning well, would make a great secondary guitar for taking out when not wanting to chance it with a pride and joy, or strumming “in a dark and empty room……stuff that works……stuff that holds up….the kind of stuff you don’t hang on the wall”
From the little information I’ve found on Dia brand guitars, they appear to have been made by Matsumoku, a Japanese manufacturer that did not survive long after the heyday of the 1970's guitar market. Matsumoku produced guitars for major manufacturers like Greco, Guyatone and Yamaha. Matsumoku made Arai, Aria, Aria Pro II and Aria Diamond badges, with Aria being their primary badged guitars.
