Up for sale, a 1978 K. Yairi YW-1000 dreadnought in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Not to be confused with the Yairi models marketed via a partnership with Alvarez in the USA, the K. Yairi instruments are far less common and were produced under a different distribution deal exclusively for Japan and Europe, crafted to exacting standards with premium tonewoods. This YW-1000 is a top-tier offering, clearly taking its design from Martin’s D-45 (albeit with a three-piece back reminiscent of a D-35), with tonewoods including a solid X-braced spruce top, Jacaranda back and sides, a mahogany neck capped with a bound ebony fingerboard, and more abalone than the sea floor.
This YW-1000 has fantastic projection, dynamically responsive with a high volume ceiling, delivering the clarity and string-to-string balance consistent with traditional USA-made dreadnoughts. There’s a fullness to the lower midrange that translates to particularly present melodic lines, and the trebles are woody and sparkling, balanced by plenty of kick in the bass register. The YW-1000 has a big, brassy growl when strummed with authority, yet cleans up and becomes decidedly sweet when played lightly or fingerstyle. This K. Yairi weighs 4lbs 10oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-53 bronze strings and comfortable action.

The neck profile retains its smooth semi-gloss finish, with several shallow marks along the profile length that don't distract the palm while fretting.
