GUYATONE EB-4 JAPANESE VINTAGE 60s BASS
All working and all dancing vintage Japanese short-scale from the 60s.
In general these old Guyatones are of such a good build quality that calling them 'Starter' or 'Student' models (the market this one was aimed at) belies just how good are.
Condition-wise we have it as 'Fair' because there was no 'Good-ish' on the menu. The price reflects this.
You can see the lacquer deterioration and wear on the neck and head. It looks a bit rough but it feels smooth in action.
The body has some bumps and scrapes, with a few touch-ins to the edge. The most visible marks are those to the back and the scar just in front of the bridge.
The tuners are original but a couple of the wings have been glued. 2 of them are currently loose but don't seem to be in danger of breaking any time soon. They work fine and they hold tuning very well.
The frets are still high.
It is undeniably basic. In a good way.
Take the neck - 'chunky' barely describes it. It's as thick and as round (not unlike the sound this bass produces) a lump of solid maple as you'll see this side of a forest. Yet on the shoulder it's surprisingly well balanced.
This model has no truss rod so it's all about fine adjustment through the neck pocket. Yet at the same time it has sophisticated (for the time) string length adjusters on the bridge saddle for correcting intonation.
The current action is very respectable with no chokes or stutters anywhere on the fretboard.
The sound ranges from sexy woody thump to uh, slightly more trebly sexy woody thump. Yet it just happens to sound vintagely great whatever amp or system you plug it into.
Looks pretty cool too. Kind of period shark fin offset that yells 'Garage!' as loud as you like.
Overall, it is just so much fun to play it's hard to put it down. Ask my neighbours. Actually, probably better not. They'll only start talking to me.

A Note On Shipping:
We want you to be fully satisfied with everything - from the item itself (naturally!) through the shipping, packaging, communication etc.
Of course there is nothing we can do about customs duty, local taxes etc at your end. But we can keep the overall price as competitive as is decently possible.
The Japan post office service (EMS) is reliable and efficient but shipping costs from Japan to Europe or the states are unavoidably expensive.
For this reason none of the shipping costs we quote reflect the actual price we have to pay. We are more than willing to take a hit on that to make things as attractive for you as possible.

Vintage Instruments & Equipment
Shipping by air plus climatic changes can affect how a guitar is set up - no matter how well it is packed. Consequently there is no guarantee that an instrument arrives with exactly the same set up as stated. After a period of acclimatisation, you may still need to make any adjustments at your own expense.
