As confirmed by St Louis Music, this is one of a couple of prototype builds, by Hiroshi Tamura. NOT Kazuo Yairi. Hiroshi, is considered one of, and by many, the greatest luthier Japan has produced. He is known for his vintage Nylon classical builds, but I have seen one other steel string, that was not an Alvarez, branded G.H. Tamura, by a gentleman in the Facebook Alvarez group. This is the only surviving example, as far as myself, or anyone I have spoken to, has any knowledge of, from an Alvarez lineage. I am well versed in all Alvarez's, and K Yairi's models, and history, and I had never heard of this.
This would be an Alvarez collectors crown jewel, as far as rarity goes. The body is in good shape, but has been well played. It has nicks and scratches, like normal, but honestly, it's super clean for the age, and the majority of all the nicks are along the very edge, and could easily be made to look as if they never happened.
I am not touching anything on it. It's being sold as I found it, down to the rusty strings. So that whoever buys it, can either keep as is, or partially restore it back to like new. No cracks, or holes, or actual damage. The body is almost identical in size to an early Yamaha FG-180, and carries a gorgeous aged caramelized color. The woods used are whatever you wanna call them, because I have no clue, besides it looks all solid board. All internal bracing is clean and tight. She's ready to hang at the center of your collection, or get down and be played for another 60+ years.
The price shown, is not the price. I am taking offers, until I can't refuse one.
