The ES-150D is a deep-bodied Gibson full acoustic, the same shape as the ES-335 and other models but with a deeper body.
The serial number suggests that it was made in 1974.
Many people may think of the ES-150 as an archtop equipped with the commonly known Charlie Christian PU that was produced from 1936, but this instrument is a completely different double cutaway model that was introduced in a different way.
The front view of the instrument looks the same as the ES-335, but the main feature of the ES-335 is that it has a thicker full-acoustic body, while the ES-335 has a semi-acoustic body.
The body thickness is slightly thinner than the ES-175 (3.5 inches), which is also a full acoustic, and is the same as the Tal Farlow model at 3.0 inches (=about 77 mm).
Other features include a master volume in the horn section on the first string side of the body, which allows one-touch volume adjustment at the center PU.
Since its discontinuation in 1974, there have been no reissue models or direct successors, making this a very rare model that is truly a hidden gem.
Body: Maple
Neck: Mahogany
Fingerboard: Rosewood
Nut width: approx. 40 mm (narrow neck)
Weight: approx. 3kg
This is a full acoustic guitar with a big raw sound, but the sound is similar to the dead sound of archtop guitars such as the L-48 and L-50.
It is a guitar that is suitable for blues and jazz, but it is also interesting to distort it and play it with a rock sound.
Please check out the sound on Youtube, etc.
In my opinion, I was told at the time of purchase that the neck break was repaired around 2016, but I think it has been repaired with very high skill and is perfectly safe to play.
It is vintage, so there are some scuffs and scratches from previous battles, but I don't think there is any fatal damage.
Included is a hard case.
