Beautiful LG-3 in amazing condition for its age showing very little play wear. This guitar is from the golden era of Gibson acoustics just after the second world war and just after Gibson moved from the script to the block logo. The LG-3 was the top of the line smaller bodied guitar (14 1/4 inch lower bout), which is pretty much the same size as a full size classical guitar, however, they sound and play amazing due to the light construction, scalloped X bracing and all round solid top quality tone woods. The LG-2 and LG-3 are both very similar guitars with X bracing, mahogany back, sides and neck, spruce top and Brazilian rosewood fingerboard and bridge however the LG-2 was sunburst and LG-3 natural. These are very different guitars to the LG-1 and LG-0 which were cheaper ladder braced guitars. You could describe the LG-2 and LG-3 guitars as slightly smaller bodied versions of the J-45 and J-50 but certainly not inferior.

This guitar is in great original condition all round and though there is plenty of lacquer checking on the body (which you will hopefully be able to see in the pictures) there is very little on the neck which is almost in mint condition. The bridge is a belly down bridge, rather than the much more common rectangular bridge, which was sometimes used around this time, as was Gibson’s way, but does provide a better seating; in fact NoTom guitars in London were selling an identical 1949 Gibson LG-3 recently (pictures still on the website) with exactly the same bridge. The guitar appears to be all original except for replacement 60’s double line Kluson tuners.

Anyway, this is a special guitar which you hardly see in this condition and sounding this good and will handle most styles of music, but excels in finger style as you would expect.

Comes with an original Geib case which is pretty tatty but also comes with a really nice Pegasus hard shell case to protect it.

I’ve no doubt missed things you may like to know about the guitar, so if you require some more pictures or would like to chat about the guitar then let me know or call me on 07714675949.
