Busato gypsy swing / jazz manouche guitar, sounds and plays FANTASTIC for both rythm and solo. It is an original labeled Busato, on the inside neckblock with the white Rue d’Orgemont shop label. Estimated to be made ca 1939 (?) based on specs, hard to determine more precisely.

The guitar originally had a screwed on bakelite pickguard, which I felt was too heavy and hindred the sound. So I replaced with a similar shaped stick-on adhesive guard, to retain the original looks, but greatly improve the sound. I still have uploaded pictures with the original bakelite pickguard in place, as well as with the pickguard removed (see last 2 images).

Recent restauration, as any great gypsy guitar it had lead a long and hard life, so needed some top cracks attended to. Please remind, that Busato tops were made of multiple pieces, and the seams over time let loose. Now it is expertly repaired. Also it has new frets, so it is in excellent playing condition with a low action and no buzzing. It will be good to go for the next century.

Early and very rare desirable instrument. Tailpiece is the original, with its black phenolic resin insert still in place.  Tuners are super high quality one-off BB replicas handcrafted by French luthier Jean Barault , which were especially adapted for this guitar (so not the standard BB replica tuners offered on his website).

Weight is just  1,6kg (i.e. 3,5 lbs)  … Featherweight !

Body size is 41 cm (i.e. 16-1/8”)

Scale length is 640 mm, very common as Selmer D-hole “Grande Bouche” guitars are also 640mm. (i.e. 25-1/4” and to compare: Gibson electrics are 24-3/4”, D’Angelico 25”, Epiphone 25-1/2”)
