Here we have a fantastic, extremely rare Höfner 185 Artist bass from the early 60s covered in rare brocade. The 185 model was introduced in 1962, making this bass one of the first in the series. Fortunately, this one is in extremely good condition and comes across even better live than in the pictures. The vinyl is in very good condition. Otherwise there is no other damage to be seen. The piping is in great shape all around. The neck has no wear, even the lacquer is still nice and bright. The rare Diamond Bass pickups are original and have that typical tone from the Beatles era. All controls work reliably except for one tone pot (which has not been replaced due to its originality). The bass does not need an overhaul as it is in mint condition. The tuners have only been cleaned and re-lubricated. The bass is over 60 years old, but has virtually no signs of use. Despite its age, the vinyl body is in fantastic condition and still shines beautifully. All pickups work as they should. The neck is in really good condition, the truss rod works perfectly. The fingerboard and frets have been polished and oiled. Naturally, no refretting is required. Since it often comes to astonishment, the bridge is loose on these models and the volume/tone circuit is vintage, which means that tone and volume influence each other. Comparable to an old Les Paul circuit.
This is a historical vintage instrument. The description corresponds to the best of our knowledge and belief. The photos are part of the description and so you can get a good picture. Should any questions arise, they will be answered immediately and conscientiously.
Due to its age and condition, this bass is a real rarity and is therefore worthwhile, especially as a collector's instrument.
It will be shipped in a matching tweed case in mint condition, hence the corresponding shipping conditions
