Produced from 1987 until 2006 the Gibson Chet Atkins SST is an Electro-acoustic guitar. The SST uses a chambered body with a Balsa centre block and a bridge transducer, with on-board electronics, to create an electric guitar that sounds and acts as acoustic guitar.
It has a solid spruce top with a mahogany body. The neck is also mahogany with an ebony fretboard adorned with the star-shaped mother-of-pearl inlays. The headstock is the traditional Gibson shape complete with a star inlay and a Chet Atkins engraved truss-rod cover. There is also a Chet Atkins signature on the top. The pickup is an LR Baggs bridge transducer with an active pre-amp. The controls are located on the bass side shoulder with volume and boost/cut for treble and bass. It provides really nice, clear tones with plenty of sustain.
Great for playing live as it produces no feedback compared to standard acoustics. Many artists have used it in concert, and this black gloss finished example was apparently previously owned, and played, by John Driskell Hopkins of the Zac Brown Band. This guitar has certainly been well played and is in player grade condition. The plectrum wear is obvious on the top and there are a couple of small chips around the area where the neck meets the body. There are other small marks/dings on the top and back and a small lacquer crack at the base of the headstock – see last 5 pictures - priced to reflect this.
The guitar comes complete with its impressive Calton flight case, which has metal plaque with Chet Atkins and case serial number. The case has a number of stickers on the top including hand written sticker “Hopkins – Chet Atkins”
