1978 Ibanez Challenger Lawsuit Strat

What you are looking at here is a highly collectible lawsuit era, 1978 Ibanez Challenger Stratocaster guitar. Why call it the Challenger? Because Ibanez was challenging Fender on the 1956 Stratocaster.

These were only made for two years 77 and 78. Of course Fender immediately sent out a cease-and-desist with the threat of a lawsuit because these were so close to the originals, same went for the Ibanez destroyer that Eddie Van Halen made popular. Except that lawsuit was threatened by Gibson.

If you’re looking at it, you are probably a collector and you know what you are looking at. As you can see the guitar is definitely road tested as I still use it to this day! It’s got it’s dings and dents, which I tried to show in the pictures. To me, it just represents charisma, as I constantly play out on the road and I played this one only once during our shows for one song only.

It is tuned to drop C tuning for the song Bodies by Drowning Pool. I upgraded the Picguard and the pick ups years ago to dual rails by Seymour Duncan the company I purchased the pick ups and the complete picguard was 920 D.

But don’t fret, the original pick ups, and Picguard are included. On top of that, I included some other pickups that I were testing with it many many years ago. One is a dual rail and the other is a Jackson single coil. Can’t remember where I got them from, and since I am lazy, I will not take them out but would rather allow the purchaser to do whatever they want with it.
