Tacoma Chief C2C - USA Made

A very lightly used Tacoma Chief C2C. Rosewood back and sides with a beautiful Sitka Spruce top. This is a Made in USA model and was designed by George Gruhn, before the company was acquired by Fender. It has factory installed Fishman electronics. Note that George Gruhn recently revitalized this style of guitar and is making a nearly identical model, now called "The Gruhn Versitar." No pick rash, despite the clear plastic pickguard being removed (very faint outline of the pickguard remains if one looks very closely). The guitar has just been cleaned, fretboard conditioned and setup with 12 gauge strings. The Fishman pickup / preamp works as designed and guitar plays great unplugged. Preamp has a new 9V battery and potentiometers have all been cleaned.

This era of Tacoma are notorious for finishes that peel, and this one is no exception. Heavy peeling of the finish on the sides, and minimally on the head stock and back. No finish appears to be peeling on the top. Apart from the obvious finish flaws, the guitar is in very good condition -- no dings or dents on the body, with just a few marks on the back of the neck from leaning the guitar. Excellent candidate for a refinish or can be left as-is (finish does not affect the sound or playability -- and you would be hard pressed to notice just by looking at the front of the guitar that it has the finish flaws!). The top has a satin finish in great condition. 

The Tacoma C2C Chief has a 000 size body with a rounded cutaway. The solid cedar top has an offset paisley soundhole. The back and sides are solid rosewood. Appointments include a pinless rosewood bridge and chrome tuners. The small soundhole removes the pressure on the bracing so the tops stay generally flat over time. Bolt on neck makes for easy adjustments -- simply put, these guitars are designed for playing and reliability. Serial number dates this one to be manufactured on Tuesday July 6th, 1999, the 9th instrument manufactured that day.

Plays beautifully up and down the neck and shows very little fret wear. Comes with OHSC which is in fair condition -- some peeling of the seams but otherwise functions as it should. No key for the case.
