I am offering a flawless 12-string Rickenbacker 370/12 from 1992 with three toaster pickups. Wonderful jangle sound.
And the very special thing about this 370/12 besides its condition:
Like the 370/12RM, i.e. the Roger McGuinn Signature, this beautiful instrument has three Toaster pickups and no conventional HiGain pickups.
Toaster pickups deliver the typical transparent, clearly defined and jangly, chime-like sound. They were the original Rickenbacker pickups and were used until the late 60s. In the 70s, guitars were played increasingly distorted and Rickenbacker reacted and developed the HiGain pickups, which have a different impedance, sound less brilliant/transparent, but more harmonic overdriven. The web is full of discussions about the advantages and disadvantages of the two variants. There are also some audio examples on youtube that clearly show the differences, especially with headphones.
If you're looking for the typical 60s jingle jangle sound of a Rickenbacker, you won't be able to avoid toaster pickups. And anyone who has played and heard toaster pickups on a 12-string Rickenbacker will no longer be satisfied with HiGain pickups. There is a reason why both Tom Petty on his 660/12 and Roger McGuinn on his 370/12 wanted toaster pickups and not HiGain pickups.
On enquiry: In the standard Rickenbacker wiring with three pickups, the neck and middle pickups are wired in parallel. In other words: In the upper position of the selector switch, you get equal parts neck and middle pickup. In the middle position, you get a mix of all three pickups.
In addition to the normal output socket, there is a further 'Rick-O-Sound' output for stereo operation, which takes the orchestral sound of the 12-string to the extreme. The Rick-O-Sound kit required for this and the corresponding cables are not included in the scope of delivery, but you can easily obtain them or solder them yourself :-). I can supply a simple adapter (stereo to 2x mono, perfectly adequate for recordings).
This Rickenbacker 370/12 was made in 1992 and is in excellent condition for its age. The frets are also free of play marks.
It comes in a hard case, unfortunately not from Rickenbacker.
The original Trussrods work perfectly.
The pots and switches also work perfectly, without crackling or humming.
