PROJECT MANDOLIN: Up for sale is this bowl-back mandolin made in New York by the Italian mandolin luthier Antonio Grauso around 1900. This is a beautiful example of an Italian style mandolin made by a fairly well-known maker at the turn of the century. The label inside reads "Fine Italian Mandolin, Maker Antonio Grauso, Naples, New York".
This is a non-functioning instrument, and is being sold as a project mandolin.
It is missing the following:
There are some minor dings and slight repairs, but otherwise it is in structurally very good condition and no separations in the bowl. There are several cracks on the top board as seen in the pictures. There scratches on the back as well as some older repairs.
It is very well made. The back of bowl has 13 staves or ribs and is made of a rich rosewood. The soundboard has a tortoise-style inlay under the sound hole.
The mandolin has the original tuners.
Please feel free to message me with any questions.
