Beautiful as new 10-string cittern or cittern also known as forest zither, from the Paul Hathway workshop in London. Model CS-1 in mint condition. Only played for about 1 hour. No flaws, no damage. Very clear, balanced sound. Top is spruce and back and sides mahogany.
The cittern, which is also used by modern folk bands, has its antecedents in the Renaissance citterns and the English guitar, but is now more closely related to the flat-backed bouzouki - the main difference being that the cittern has 10 strings in 5 choruses, a slightly shorter neck and often a slightly larger body. There does not seem to be a standard tuning, ADADA, ADGAD or DGDAD are common. But CDGAE is also possible.
This model is mandolin sized.
