A genuinely excellent example of the rare and superb TEAC X-2000M, the final open reel unit from the celebrated brand. In the opinion of the technician who serviced the unit, it had no significant use before being carefully stored, due to factory installation of notorious faulty capacitors (since replaced) that marred this era of TEAC and TASCAM gear. All faulty components have been replaced and thoroughly tested; all functions meet or exceed original spec, and the unit is anticipated to reliably function as new.

Notes from the technician:

"Unit overall in excellent shape, heads and tape guides show virtually no tape path wear suggesting unit was barely used before being stored. Faulty transformer has been replaced. Unit has new rubber belt and reconditioned pinch rollers. Speed of 15IPS and 7.5IPS set with calibration tapes. Heads and playback EQ aligned, unit has been calibrated to period correct 185nW standard. 0dB on meters corresponds to -5dBu (0dbu=.775VAC), when output is set to 'CAL' unit is set for unity gain. Due to lack of EE type tape unit has been set up and biased for Quantegy 456 type tape (SM911 is modern equivalent). When recording press in EE type tape. At 15IPS record is flat (+/-1dB) out to 30kHz, at 7.5IPS flat to 15kHz. DBX noise reduction operation confirmed to spec. Unit is capable of playing back quarter track tape but record playback limited to half track heads. Unit is good for either home hifi use or for a 'pro-sumer' mastering environment. All critical solder joints and interboard connections have been reflowed. All roller bearings have been oiled and unit is ready for long term reliable operation."
