1968 Head, with ‘68 AB165 circuit board and some components dated 1967. SilverFace. Drip Edge. Blackline. Only produced during the year 1968, these are the rarest livery of vintage Fender amps.
Plays phenomenally, and in fantastic physical condition. Grounded 3-prong power chord professionally installed, death capacitor removed (+ ground switch deactivated), and comes loaded with a full set of tubes (not all from the same set, but well-matched). All controls work well, switches are firm, knobs turn smoothly. This amplifier sounds absolutely incredible, and is probably the shining example of a silver face Bassman. On top of this, the amp looks unbelievably good for its age, and I would go so far to say that is the best condition you will ever see a late 60's Fender. It's certainly the best example I've ever come across.
Classic silverface AB165 circuit. By my/my tech’s eye, it seems that all the components are original. Original input/output tranny + choke, Mallory Mustard, Orange Drop and GE caps, and carbon comp resistors. None were leaking or burnt out, and components tested within reason, so we decided not to swap any out until they became a problem. The capacitors in here alone are worth a small fortune.
I will state with confidence, based on playability, physical condition, vintage components, and rare drip-edge + blackline cosmetics: If you want a silver face Fender head, then this is the one you want.
Would definitely prefer local pickup in Tri-State area [I'm willing to meet up within reason— shoot me a message] but ground shipping is also available.
