Early 30’s Carson J. Robison
If you have been longing for a vintage 30’s Gibson L-00 but the budget just wouldn’t allow, wait no longer. These rare early 30’s Carson’s were made by Gibson in Kalamazoo to a 00 spec. This one is just flat fun to play, and the 30’s era sound is unbelievable. So clean and bright. The top is spruce. She has been played well by a previous and has seen some obvious wear. The scratches however are very superficial and we think just add a very cool vintage vibe to the guitar. There was a crack along the bottom lower bout that was sealed and a cleated and sealed crack along the top upper bout. The structure of the guitar is now rock solid (they sure knew how to build these things back in the day). The back and sides are beautiful mahogany. The sound the aged wood produces is just plain sweet. You won’t believe the projection out of a guitar this light. The neck is mahogany also, with a little deeper vintage V shape. It is easy to get up and down the neck. It gives a feel as though you had been taken back to the early delta blues. The fretboard is Brazilian rosewood as is the bridge. Neck is straight and the action is very comfortable. Frets though used some, in good shape. As mentioned, there are a few superficial finish dings and scrapes, and a little buckle rash, but the finish shines beautifully for an old gal like this. These babies were only made for about 3 years, so they are indeed rare. They follow the same spec as the Kalamazoo KG-11 (and as we said the L-00) except they have that unique Carson J. signature and a few less upgraded appointments than the old Gibson. Comes in a newer case, in excellent condition. A very sweet vintage guitar with an amazing story.
