I'm modeler heavy lately, and I rarely turn the bassman on anymore,. I bought it hoping I'd be the next Mike Ness, but now she's just sitting, collecting dust (figuratively) and deserves to be with someone who can crank her up and will play her more than I do. Not crazy about selling, but I would like to have a custom Balaguer built, so I'm putting a few things up for sale to try and fund that.

The listed price includes the Marshall JCM 800 Lead 1960 cab.

Recently serviced with an AB165 circuit. This vintage Black Panel Fender amp features a well-maintained and very original circuit, with stock transformers and only a few new small electrolytic caps installed as needed to ensure optimal functionality. The AB165 circuit delivers clarity, warmth, and headroom, and this Bassman excels at sweet and articulate Fender clean tones. Once you reach about 5 on the volume dial, the circuit starts to overdrive smoothly and compress a bit, for a raw, thick sound that's perfect for guitar or bass. It's a simple and pure vintage Fender "piggyback" head that provides a perfect platform for effect pedals, and is ready for stage and studio use.

The AB165 circuit retains all of the original Schumacher transformers which all date between the 15th and 20th weeks of '67. All of the CTS pots are original as well, with visible date codes from the 18th week of '66 while the chassis stamp also has a '67 code. The preamp retains the majority of the original blue molded Ajax caps, a central component of the sweet, musical character of the Black Panel-era preamps. There are a few small new capacitors in the preamp, while the power amp retains the original (and surprisingly still viable) caps. The power cable has been upgraded to a modern three-prong, and there is one silver plug on the back of the chassis from a previously removed mod. The tube complement includes a pair of matched and properly biased Sovtek 5881 (6L6GC) power tubes along with a combination of modern and vintage valves in the preamp. On the inside of the head cabinet, the original tube chart is present with a "QG" date stamp which translates to July of 1967.

Cosmetically, this Bassman features its original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth, both of which are surprisingly well-kept. Hardware includes the stock handle, sphinx glides (feet), and Fender logo, while the piggyback clip bars on the bottom are no longer present. The faceplate is also quite clean and complete with original witch hat knobs.
