This is a beautiful and unique antique Alfred Arnold imported by Henry Silberhorn, from my research at the turn of the 20th century, but possibly as early as 1890! The mother of pearl inlays are bedazzling. I never identified the date but it is old! I am a professional piano Accordionist, and have owned this instrument for 9 years. I started to learn this concertina as a hobby and practice but now need to make space in my collection. It is in good enough shape for me as a student to learn on, but also is in need of thorough restoration. Most reeds sound good but a few are off and it needs tuning and further restoration. It has been stored along with the rest of my instruments with great attention to humidity, to prevent mold and other problems that beget antique accordions in storage. From the photographs one can see a greenish mold colored stain on the bottom of the case. Be assured that the accordion is predominantly stored outside of this case, on a shelf in a dry environment for just this concern. Can ship without original case, if preferred.
Excellent for a collector, accordion aficionado, or perhaps another accordion shop active here on reverb will see it and want to complete the restoration to help it find it's next owner!
The instrument had the (fuchsia!) Bellows patched in 2017 by The Button Box in Sunderland Ma. Their chief technician Bob Snope wrote me the non-exhaustive list of recommended repairs at that time- photo of original note attached.
Suggested repairs are
-replace worn/damaged valves
-repair 2 stripped end screws
-repair loose button
-clean corrosion from reeds
-replace worn/broken reed tongues
-voice and tune reeds
-repair small pad leaks (right side)
The bellows has already been patched
This accordion is sold to the best offer AS IS! I would prefer an in person/local sale so the buyer can fully inspect the instrument before commiting to purchase. It has weathered 100 years+, is not perfect, but is ready after your repair to weather 100 more. Or do as I did, plan to fully restore it later and start tomorrow to enjoy learning this one of a kind instrument in it's current (needs tuning, but tolerable) state!
