This is a 1950 Kay K30 with solid maple construction with a nice tobacco burst. The finish has a few dings and a repaired crack in the back but is in remarkably good condition. It had some dried out glue in a few places that have been fixed and is now tight and stable. Being a maple guitar with the smaller “auditorium” size body it has a bright tone that projects well.
The poplar neck with walnut fretboard (25-3/4” scale) came off easily and I gave it a fresh 12” radius and New Jescar 47104 frets, then re-set it perfectly. It has the original 1-11/16" bone nut, new vintage-style tuners matched to my compensated aluminum lightening bridge and original trapeze. It has a large C carve with no trussrod, the action is electric guitar-like low and easy.
I installed one of my hand wound Type13SC gold foil pickups that works great with this big body giving it a clean, rich and full sound.
These guitars were designed for sitting around and strumming in a different era a long time ago that had different musical demands. This is a beautiful guitar professionally rebuilt that you can plug in and strum right now- it plays great and will continue to play great for a long time.
