About This Listing

Yahama FG 300 Made in Japan Early 70s. I purchased this somewhat recently & it’s a great guitar I just never play it. It has a few knicks on it, a scratch on the headstock & it can use some new strings but it’s in really great shape.

The woods are the ply-woods that were used in the 70s to prevent damage during the humid ocean conditions during shipment from Japan to the USA. These are not laminated. Hence there are no cracks and the wood has held up beautifully. ( more information on the Japanese plywoods on "yamahavintagefg.com") The top is spruce and the back and sides are rosewood. Nice book ends on back. Mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard. This guitar is solid as a rock and needs nothing structurally. It certainly does not need a neck reset. The guitar maintains a woodsy tone as is characterized by solid wood guitars. The frets have plenty of life left in them and are in good shape.

It has been set-up by Arizona luthier Norman Haight and demonstrates 4/32 inch action on 6th string 12th fret and 3/32 inch action on 1st string 12th fret. (pictures)

This guitar has a nice sweet sound with a very present bass.

Dreadnaught Size ( The manufacture called it "Jumbo")

Body length 19 1/2 inches

Lower bout width 16 inches

Upper Bout width 11 1/4 inches

Neck heal depth 3 1/2 inches

Tail depth 4 3/8 inches

Total length 40 1/2

Scale 25 1/2 inches

Nut Width 1 11/16 inches

String spacing 2 1/16

Serial number 31219

Cosmetically in very nice shape for a 50 year old guitar. There is a scratch on the front of the headstock and otherwise normal micro scratches and so on from normal play

The guitar has been modified in a very positive way by removing the original bridge and replacing with a new ebony bridge and bone saddle. The new bridge has much more contact with the top as compared with the original bridge making this a very interesting FG 300. The intonation is spot-on up and down the neck, and tone has become more expressive with a little more bass than with the old bridge. The truss rod functions normally in both directions. I recently had the original pick guard redone & it looks great.

Original sturdy hardshell case in good condition included. I don’t have the key but all of the latches work well.
