About This Listing

Selling a very well preserved Guild JF30, manufactured February 1994 at the Guild factory in Westerly, Rhode Island.

The JF30 model is a jumbo guitar with an arched back, i.e. H. a curved back as was previously common on fully acoustic jazz guitars. The aim was to achieve a higher volume. Arched Back is a specialty that, as far as I know, only Guild has built in acoustic guitar series and still offers.

Sound: Through the larger body, the JF30 achieves a warm sound and a present bass without neglecting the highs. It is loud, produces good projection and offers long sustain. It is therefore ideal for accompanying solo voices and smaller ensembles and is very suitable as a sound alternative if you already own a dreadnought or if a dreadnought is already used in the band/recording.

Specs and condition: The JF30 was manufactured with the same specs in natural, sunburst and black. The top is solid AA spruce, the sides and back are maple. The one-piece neck has a rosewood fingerboard, ditto the bridge.

The guitar is painted in a glossy black, with matching headstock. Pickguard black, the binding is in a warm white/beige, matching the string pins and the headstock inlays. The paint has traces of play from strumming, which can only be seen when you hold the guitar up to the light. There are a few small pressure points (see photo on the back of the neck), no tears, breaks or repairs. At the transition between paint and binding there are small paint chips in some places, probably from the shrinkage of the paint application.

The high-quality, gold-colored Grover tuners run like butter.

The frets are clean in the fingerboard and allow for stable intonation. Only the first 3 frets show slight signs of wear, but no deep notches or anything that buzzes or sounds unclean, no refretting necessary. The fingerboard is perfect, the string action is good.

Overall, the first 30 years went pretty well for this JF30. The guitar comes with a matching case, even if it is not believed to be an orginal Guild case (which by the fact is something that all manufacturers buy somewhere else). The guitar is fitted with fresh 12-52 Martin strings and can be tested in Korschenbroich, near Mönchengladbach, Germany
