I’m selling my 1940s Oahu lap steel because I recently got a pedal steel and want to focus on that and sell guitars I’m not using. This plays really well and I’ve included a video of myself playing it in C6 (I’m not very good but C6 is fun anyway!) These were produced by Magnatone’s predecessor, Dickinson, in the 40s, from what I’ve read. The single coil pickup has a lovely vintage tone that balances brightness and the low end well.
The only issue is that the volume knob isn’t responding well… it doesn’t bother me because I use a volume pedal but it’s finicky and occasionally makes a hum if you twist it too far. it hasn’t been an issue for me but I want to be clear. I’m sure someone who works on electric guitars could fix whatever wiring issue causes this, I just don’t feel I have time to do that.
The tuning pegs have also been replaced on one side, as you can see in the photos. It tunes very easily but the pegs are black on side and white on the other. It also comes with the original hardshell case (fairly beat up).
I am also including two slides - one is an excellent, small tone bar. The other is an old, rusty (original?) slide that I have not used. The tone bar works great.
