About This Listing

Elk Viking 53 Amplifier Head

Elk Musical Instruments is the company that produced amps for Fender Japan from the early 80s. (Around the same time as the Fender-Fujigen guitars hook up) Renowned for high quality some of their guitars and basses fetch crazy prices now.

This lad comes from the early-mid 70s and sounds brilliant. The reverb is really classy but the tremolo...you have to hear it to believe it. Quite superb. Like having a slither of the legendary Goatkeeper onboard.

They were built for guitar but I have also run bass through it to some acclaim. I have also used this through big cabinets and small and the sound is always bell-clear and consistent. (That tremolo is so cool it's brilliant whatever you put through it)

Overall it's in good shape for a 50 year old. The tolex is a bit faded as you might expect with a few minor nicks and surface marks and some of the chrome is tarnished - but sound-wise it works flawlessly.  All the original controls are present & crackle-free.

Of course being from Japan it runs on 100V. If you are in Europe a small step up/down transformer will be needed.

(We have a number of these transformers available from when we lived in Europe. Let me know if you require one and we can add it for a very good price. They are inexpensive to buy anyway)

Specs:

Front

  • 2 Channels with Dual inputs: V-B-T + Bright Switch on both
  • Ch 1 has Reverb & Tremolo (Speed + Intensity)
  • Ch 2 has a Presence Control
  • Standby & Power

Rear

  • AC Outlet
  • Ground Switch
  • 2 Speaker Jack Outs
  • Reverb / Tremolo Jack Out
  • Line Out Jack

Everything for sale in this Reverb shop is coming from a 40+years personal collection of guitars, basses, amps & studio gear.

As the shop name suggests these are predominantly Vintage, Eclectic or Japanese - so if you are looking for something specific, please get in touch. Maybe we have got something you've been searching for.

A Note On Shipping:

We want you to be fully satisfied with everything - from the item itself (naturally!) through the shipping, packaging, communication etc.

Of course there is nothing we can do about customs duty, local taxes etc at your end. But we can keep the overall price as competitive as is decently possible.

The Japan post office service (EMS) is reliable and efficient but shipping costs from Japan to Europe or the states are unavoidably expensive.

For this reason none of the shipping costs we quote reflect the actual price we have to pay. We are more than willing to take a hit on that to make things as attractive for you as possible.

Vintage Instruments & Equipment

Shipping by air plus climatic changes can affect how a guitar is set up - no matter how well it is packed. Consequently there is no guarantee that an instrument arrives with exactly the same set up as stated. After a period of acclimatisation, you may still need to make any adjustments at your own expense.
