Made in Japan in the 1960s, the cutaway, semi-hollow "violin-style" Kent 836 is a rare and elusive classic. The 16-inch scale inspires some players to set them up as mandolas, although they can also be strung with ultralight mandolin strings. Nothing quite looks like the 836, and it is much more difficult to find than its cousin, the solidbody Kent 744.
This is a standard sunburst model in good condition (but needing some work), with just one noticeable ding on the back of the upper treble bout. Semihollow body, original pickup, 3-piece neck, and all original hardware. Floating adjustable bridge. Outrageous 5-ply binding all the way around. No case or gig bag included.
To make it fully playable, this instrument will require a new nut and refretting. It has been priced accordingly.
